First day in New York City

First dilemma - shoes. It was 80 degrees today. I wasn't sure how hot that was going to be, but I thought it was going to be quite hot? I'm in denial that it could be anything other, having only packed summer clothes. I got dressed and put on my summer wedges - then in a change of heart I changed into my new Clarks sandals. These are not a good look, but bought in the eternal quest to find comfortable summer shoes - and I think I'll be doing a lot of walking.

9am and I still didn't see one single other person in bare legs and I think I even saw a stylish young man look at my sandals. I even wore big sunglasses to detract from my shoes - but it may not have worked.

I walked to 40th Street (from 15th St) to Port Authority bus station - booked my bus ticket to Ithaca for Wednesday - I'm going to visit a friend, Wendy and her husband and baby.

On 4oth St is also Bryant Park - behind the New York Public Library - it's a brilliant little park where people work on their laptops - first thing this morning it was a combination of a few homeless people and some early morning enthusiasts. I'm definitely going back here so will report back later.

I walked then to Spring St (in Soho) and had a pedicure (in an attempt to improve the foot/sandal combination.) I had lunch in my favourite cafe - it has free wi-fi so hopefully I'll be able to go there too.

By lunchtime it was a really beautiful day.

End of day conclusion - flat sandals were the best option - not even the hint of a blister - a first for me and summer shoes.

I bet the person who looked at your shoes was thinking, "jeez, my feet are killing me... wish I was as comfortable as her." :)
