I don't think you can avoid it !especially as there is that big building nearby (can't remember name) full of buisnesses and shops - has a nice big winter garden you can sit in?
not sure about the Ground Zero visitor centre - it seemed one thing too far for me?

I know what you mean... I've been here 2 years and I still haven't been there. I don't like the touristy aspect of it, and I hate to think of people selling souvenirs with cliches like "never forget" on them right next to the site... seems so crass. But on the other hand I'm sure some people find it a really meaningful experience to see it.
